U16 match report
On a very sunny but cool Tuesday afternoon Bangor Academy faced Ballymoney High in the U16 High Schools’ Pollock Cup at the Dub. This was a re-run of last year’s final when Bangor prevailed.
Bangor settled quickly, playing into a deceptive breeze and went 5-0 up. Ballymoney eventually got their game together and put pressure on the Bangor side. The pressure eventually told, and they got their rewards scoring a converted try to lead 7-5 at half-time.
The second half was a very tense affair with both sides feeling the pressure of a cup final. Ballymoney scored again with the conversion attempt missed. Soon after Bangor Academy came back well and got the ball over the whitewash, got the conversion to tie the game at 12-12.
The scoreline didn’t change until the last minute of the match when Ballymoney were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, and they opted to go for the 3 points. The Ballymoney out-half calmly slotted it over and the referee blew for full time. 15-12
Well done to Ballymoney and a deserved victory.
