Bangor Academy recognises that moving from primary to post-primary school is a significant step for pupils and their families. The school has developed a comprehensive transition programme to ensure that new Year 8 students feel welcomed, supported, and confident as they begin their journey.
Welcome and Orientation Evening – June
- A welcome message from the Principal, Mr Matthew Pitts, reassures families that the school is committed to making the transition smooth and positive.
- New pupils are welcomed into our Sports Hall, where all Year 8 form classes are assembled. They are then guided to their designated Form classroom, where they have the opportunity to meet their Form Tutor and get to know their fellow classmates.
Key Staff Support
- Mrs N Anderson, Assistant Principal, works closely with the Year 8 team to oversee the transition process.
- Head of Year 8, leads the pastoral and academic support for new pupils.
- Additional support is provided by:
- Deputy Head of Year
- School Nurse
- School Counsellor
- Year 8 Form Tutors
These staff members are introduced to pupils early on to build familiarity and trust.
Induction Activities
- Pupils take part in induction days designed to help them settle in, meet their peers, and learn about school routines.
- Activities focus on:
- Navigating the school environment
- Understanding timetables and expectations
- Building friendships and confidence
Communication with Families
