Bangor Academy vs Nendrum
U16 Girls’ N.D.S.S.S.A Premier Cup Final
This season was really successful for the Academy’s U16 girls’ squad. To get to the final they had successfully retained the North Down League Shield for the second year in a row without losing a game. Nendrum were also undefeated in the South Down League, this meant they also retained their Shield. Due to other results in the cup, this saw Bangor Academy play Nendrum in the Premier Cup Final.
The Bangor Academy girls started extremely well; seeing a lot of the ball and putting the opposition on the back foot in the first ten minutes. The girls had some great chances but unfortunately failed to put any in the back of the net. Nendrum started to battle back, and our goalkeeper had some excellent saves, but Nendrum capitalised around the 30th minute mark with a lovely finish from the left to go 1-0 up at half-time.
The second, entertaining half started with Nendrum on the front foot. The Bangor girls knew they had to get through the first 5 minutes of the second half without conceding another goal, and they did just that. Despite pressure from Nendrum, the Academy played some impressive football. Both teams were knocking on the door to get more goals in the game, but the determined goalkeepers looked impassable until the 60th minute when Nendrum slotted home their second goal of the game. Despite Bangor Academy’s fight and determination to get a goal back, Nendrum held off to secure a 2-0 victory in the final.
Congratulations to Nendrum in the win. Meanwhile our own coaches are extremely proud of all of the Academy players who have been so committed this season. Thank you to the U13 players who stepped up and played brilliantly, and to our Year 12 girls who sadly played their last game for the school – you all will be all be missed!
